Health/Medical Orientation - Online

The Refugee Services Section of the Ohio Job and Family Services Department has developed a wonderful DVD that comprehensively covers the health information issues that are to be included in refugee orientation sessions.  With their permission, Healthy Roads Media has adapted this DVD into web-based materials.  The DVD is broken into 28 different topic areas that each provide a 1-4 minute web presentation - all available on this link.

Volume 1 includes information on the role of the resettlement agency, personal care, nutrition, health, adjusting to a new home, safety and emergencies, housing, and employment.  The materials are presented in two formats:  multimedia (Kirundi) and print (Kirundi and English).

Volume 2 includes eight topics:  laws and rights, managing money, using a bank, education for children and adults, parenting in the United States, family communication skills, domestic violence, and the use and abuse of alcohol.

Volume contains the topics:  becoming a U.S. citizen, buying and owning a car, bullying and discrimination, mental health issues, and prenatal and maternal health care.

HIV/AIDS information resources in English, Somali, Nepali and Karen (with French and Swahili to come).  They cover thirteen different topics and are available in multiple formats
